OFFSETTING
your impact on
CO2 global emissions
Neutralising
yor 'carbon footprint':
COMPANIES
and Organisations
in general
PRIVATE:

WHY TO OFFSET ?
To
contribute to curb the global CO2 emissions -and other
green-house effect's gases, GHG- it is not only something that depends
on those 'emitting' industries that are already subject by Estates'
regulations to annual objectives of carbon emissions reduction and/or
compensation. It is also an aim that could be assumed by any
company or organisation, as well as individuals and families, by means
of neutralising to a given extent their impact on carbon emissions and
others GHG. That is, by means of compensating (offsetting) the
equivalent to their carbon foot print.
Every day we -companies in general, organisations and private persons-
consume vast amounts of energy through areas such as driving, buildings’
lightning, heating & cooling, as well as flying and other mobility,
which in turn produces -directly or indirectly- quantities of carbon
dioxide (CO2) that go into the atmosphere. These emissions
contributes towards global warming; and one ton has the same impact
wherever in the world it is emitted.
|

 |
On the grounds of your environmental commitment you might try to reduce
your energy use as much as possible -by changing habits,
introducing energy efficiency & saving measures. Though certainly some of your
present impact on
global emissions is as of today
unavoidable.
|

You might
start by offsetting some of your unavoidable impact, which could mean you to
step towards a situation of being neutral as far as your contribution to
the global emissions. How? by supporting projects that reduce global
emissions in an equivalent quantity elsewhere.

carry out such offsetting. Then you decide.

WHAT IT MEANS TO COMPENSATE and how it operates
The
mechanism for neutralising an unavoidable impact
on the CO2 emissions is
known as carbon offsetting. It works through funding sustainable energy
projects -power generation from clean renewable sources, reforestation
projects, ...- that reduce an equivalent volume of Tn. of CO2 elsewhere
in the planet; specially in less developed areas.
for
BUSINESS and Organisations in general,
entities, associations, clubs, ...
we
offer through this mechanism the possibility you can make your
organisation -or some of its
specific activities, as corporate annual conventions, staff’s trips,
etc.- become climate-neutral.

for
PRIVATE:
families, groups,
individuals,
we offer to you an easy way to
offset the impact on global carbon emissions derived from your daily
activities, or some of them; or from occasional ones, as trips.
As a result you will contribute to reduce the global emissions of
greenhouse-effect gasses that generate the global warming associated to
the climate change.

THE
CLEAN DEVELOPMENT
MECHANISM
It
is managed by the
United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change
(UNFCCC). And it is in fact the main active device in the implementation
of the Kyoto Protocol, as well as of its continuity: the
2016 Paris Agreement.
The
offsetting -of that part of your 'carbon footprint' you might decide
(i.e., a given number of Tn. of CO2 equivalent)- is carried out as
follows:
|
 |
Each
clean development project
validated by the UNFCCC gets as many
Certified Emission Reduction
credits (CERs) as Tn. of CO2 emissions it has been verified
it has reduced or avoided; (1 CER = 1 Tn reduction).
These projects are privately proposed and funded (by local entities,
NGO, companies, ..)- And what makes such projects viable in financial
terms is precisely the understanding by their promoters that somebody
will buy the CERs the project will be assigned to, after annual
verification, by UNFCCC.
Once a given number of such 'carbon credits' have been bought, to use them
for offsetting means that they be
cancelled in the official Registry (the EU's Union Registry, in our
case). That guarantees that they can not be used more than once.
|
Therefore, when we are offering to you to compensate a given number of
CERs (i. e., a given number of Tn. of CO2 of your
carbon footprint) it entails we to buy and cancel such number of CERs on
your behalf; and delivering to you the corresponding certificate stating
that such CERs has been duly cancelled in the Union Registry on your behalf.
